Whole 30: Day 1 – Listening to my Body
1st day of Whole 30, done.
Here’s a brief summary of the day! I hope this encourages you in this journey and give you some tips to complete these Whole 30 days with success!
How it felt
The first day of a food/nutrition/fitness challenge is always the easiest day to me. I’m typically pumped up, have planned all all my meals, packed my gym clothes, and am ready to do this thing!
However, since I’ve done Whole 30 many times before as well, I don’t think I was as pumped up as I was the first time, but definitely felt prepared by planning my meals and snacks from the night before (definitely something worth doing – trust me! See yesterday’s post on preparing for the Whole 30 here). It wasn’t a tough day either as I didn’t feel that stressed out, so didn’t crave much and also just felt eager to have my body reset after my birthday weekend (where trust me, I ate desserts that were not Whole 30 or Paleo haha) and from the intestinal infection I got in July.
Highlight
Furthermore, what made the 1st day of the Whole 30 so special was just how many people chose to join me in it! Even my husband got on board to do his 2nd Whole 30. It makes me happy because I know the power of eating real, unprocessed food and how it transformed me and so many others. So it brings me so much joy to know that those closest to me are alsp going to venture on the journey to a healthy relationship with food, fitness and holistic health.
Challenge
The biggest challenge was listening to my body’s hunger signals. Since I had a fair share of chocolate brownies for my birthday (that was my version of a birthday cake), my stomach felt fuller than normal. So it was hard to know when I was hungry and when I was full.
However, once I continue with Whole 30 for the next 30 days and start eating real, unprocessed, natural foods, my body will reset and I will start to feel and know when it needs food, water, and rest. I’ll also be able to know when a food or drink upsets your stomach and even when a food or drink stimulates my cravings for something.
So those doing Whole 30 with me or wanting to do it, look forward to that!
As the next 30 days progress, and even after as you reintroduce some foods, you are going to be able to tell how food and drink affects you, for the better and for the worse.
Favorite Meal
I’ll leave you with my favorite meal from today: Breakfast. To be quite honest, breakfast is my favorite meal in general because I’m able to make a quick, nutritious meal for my husband and I, and start the day off talking about our hopes/feelings about the day ahead over food that will prepare us for that day.
Here’s what I ate for breakfast:
- 2 Scrambled eggs with spinach, green pepper, mushrooms, sauteed red onions (sautee these before adding the other ingredients), Niman Ranch Thai style sausage (about 1/2 – split one between Tomy and I) – all in coconut oil
- 1 Green Apple
- A few nuts (almonds/cashews) for a little more fat
- Coffee (brewed and blended with coconut oil and cinnamon)
P.S. If you are still wondering how to map out your meal, check out a Whole 30 resource here which will guide you in how to make a balanced meal with carbs, protein and fat.
Well my friends, thanks for journeying on this adventure with me. If you are doing the Whole 30, I hope today was a great one. If you aren’t, I still hope today was a great one and that you took something from this blog post 🙂
Enjoy your night and see you tomorrow.
