Whole 30: Day 5 – 7 Reasons Why I’m Doing Another Whole30
“Why am I doing Whole30?” This is the question I asked myself and wrestled with today. Is my motive to actually allow my body to reset? Is it to lose body fat, to gain muscle? Is it to perform better in the gym? Why am I doing this? Why am I doing this 30 day challenge for the third time?
If I’m quite honest, it’s probably all of the above. None of those reasons are bad at all. Yet today as I reflected, I was challenged to go deeper and to further commit to this 30 days. I was challenged to write the benefits of Whole30 and to continually reflect on this list over the next 25 days in the times I would feel like quitting (because trust me, those days will come).
Why I’m doing another Whole30
- For my body: To allow my body to be fueled by natural, whole foods that God created and designed to give my body nourishment
- For my mind: To continue allow myself to feel free to enjoy food, not count calories, and know that eating well is not restricting, but empowering
- For my soul and spirit: To give up sugar for 30 days while making more time to pray and seek Jesus, to crave Him more than I crave those other foods
- For my performance: To give my body the fuel it needs to support the intensity and training I do through Crossfit
- For my creative side: To make space for myself to try new recipes to not only make eating well fun, but to further my passion to create beautiful meals out of seemingly bland ingredients
- For my family and friends: To stand in solidarity with my loved ones also doing Whole 30, and for those who aren’t, to show that it may be hard, but that taking charge of your health can literally transform your life
- For my future clients: To show my future clients that I have walked the very journey I hope to walk them through, and to allow my experience to encourage and motivate them to take charge of their health
The next 25 days will have its ups and its downs. I’m going to feel on top of the world some days, and ready to eat a huge, fudge brownie on some other days. Yet whether the day is easy or hard, I will choose to celebrate and remember the list above.
I will stand with a posture of gratitude and thanksgiving, and know that this small decision to abstain from certain foods and welcome others for 30 days, is all worth it. It will take strength, courage, and confidence but in the end it will be all worth it.
It’s always all worth it.
