Whole 30: Day 29 – Made to Worship
Melodies with words has been my posture today. When I sit back and think about Jesus and just how sweet His love is, I can’t help but to respond in songs of worship.
Ever since high school, I seemed to connect deeply to God through singing and music. It became my first language and how my mind, body and soul naturally wanted to use to communicate to God and to others. Whether it’s a cry of desperation, a call to see someone healed, or a shout of celebration, worship music is how I communicate it all. The deepest part of who I am and how I feel about God is clearly seen and heart when I sing worship music. I had to grow in this over the years as timidity and fear used to get the best of me.
Yet, after countless opportunities to lead others in worship in services and private times with Jesus, my entire being becomes free in worship. My hands must go high and wide, my knees must bow, my eyes must close, and my feet must dance.
Psalm 92:1-5 proclaims that “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!”
Jesus is most worthy of all my praise, all my words, and all my life. In love, he came and showed me through his life how to love God and love others. In love, he gave his life willingly to cover all wrongs. In love, he still pursues my heart with holy jealousy. How can I not respond with shouts of thanksgiving, dances of celebration, words of praise? I can’t. I literally can’t. I was wired to worship and I would argue, that we are all wired to worship God. We actually were made to worship and give our time, affection, service, and money to God.
Yet, along the way, we have instead worship humans (family, leaders, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc), objects (money, jobs, houses, cars, etc.), and fame (success in activities we do). Yet, what’s interesting about all of those things is that they will fade away. We will leave this earth and won’t take any of that with us because it’s all temporary. Further than that, those things are always hungry for more of our time, more of our soul, more of our money.
And the crazy thing is, those things will never satisfy us the way God can and will. His love is wild, his love is unconditional, his love is truth, his love is eternal, his love is what we were meant to pursue. Our Creator is the one we were meant to worship, Jesus is the one that deserves our heart and affection. And although I’m guilty of not always acting that way, today I was reminded of it through worship, in particular the song below by Amanda Cook called “Heroes.”
So my friends, I leave you on this Day 29 praying that you will wrestle with what I’ve said and ask yourself who or what are you worshiping, and who instead deserves your worship, time, and complete affection.
See, if there is one thing that Whole 30 has taught me is that we must spend our efforts and affections on what matters, and that which lasts.

Let the heroes rest
Let the striving cease
I lay down my crown
Here at Your feet
I will trust
Here in the mystery
I will trust
In You completely
Awake my soul to sing
With Your breath in me
I will worship
You taught my feet
To dance upon disappointment
And I, I will worship
Let the weary rise
Lift their eyes to see
Your love crushing every lie
Every doubt and fear
I will trust
Here in the mystery
I will trust
In You completely
Awake my soul to sing
With Your breath in me
I will worship
You taught my feet
To dance upon disappointment
And I, I will worship
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You are making all things new
Awake my soul to sing
With Your breath in me
I will worship
You taught my feet
To dance upon disappointment
And I, I will worship
