Whole 30: Day 31 – It Starts with Food, but Doesn’t Have to End There

The journey towards holistic and optimal health does not cease when a challenge is over.

The mistake most of us make is thinking that once we have finished a challenge, we can go back to our old ways of eating, moving, thinking and living. And it’s that sort of thinking that gets us into trouble every time. We must approach the challenge as the beginning and the days after as a journey of the rest of our lives. We must pursue health for more than just 30 days – we must pursue it for the rest of our days.

Therefore, in order to do this, I have resolved to continue to pursue optimal and holistic health in a few areas, in the few specific ways below. These are areas I know I need to work on and at the same time, don’t want to put a time frame to it. I hope to work on all of these until they become natural just like eating real foods has. These are based on Whole30’s 9 Factors for Optimal Health.

Here they are:

  • Sleep. Aim for 7 hours each night.
  • Personal growth. Before each scary task, decide with confidence that I will do my best and that my best is good enough.
  • Temperance. Spend 30 minutes a day to be completely unplugged from my computer, TV, and my Smartphone.
  • Active recovery. Spend 15 minutes stretching, foam rolling, or doing mobility work daily.
  • Fun and Play: Read a book (pleasure reading, not work!) for at least 30 minutes a week.
  • Stress management: Take a deep breath, and write out what is stressing me and see how I can Eliminate it, Reduce it, or Control it.
  • Exercise: Work on Olympic lifts (snatches and clean and jerks) at least 1x outside of Crossfit class once a week.
  • Nutrition(ish): Floss! These teeth are just as important as the food going in my body! Without these teeth, I won’t be able to chew!
  • Injury Rehab: Once I start to feel a pain that isn’t normal, rest that part of my body until the pain is gone.

Now, I encourage you to do the same! Think of the areas above and what specifically you need to work on to be made well. Write them out and commit to them no matter the cost. You know what you need to become more healthy better than I do; however, it’s also YOU that must decide to take action to obtain that level of health you desire. You hold the responsibility to the transformation you seek. Will you accept it?

My friends, this journey has been great! It’s Day 31 and I’m excited to continue to pursue health, all of my days. My goals may change along the way, but I resolve to always move forward and make true wellness a priority in my life. And I pray you also do the same.

After 32 days of writing and another Whole30 down, I bid you good night and blessings on your personal health journey. Resolve that you can be made well and more so than that, you will be made well 🙂

P.S. If you would like to get some 1:1 support during your Whole30, I have a 6 week group/1:1 coaching package just for that and it starts September 13th, 2017! Go here to check out the package and see if it’s a fit for you. Click >>HERE<<.
