Catalyze Your Purpose (Part 1: Discover Who You are as a Person)
Who you are as a person matters. In all the world, there is no one like you.
You are a unique individual, created to do something only you could do. All of who you are is one-of-a kind and there is no one like you.
Yet, it’s so easy to believe otherwise, isn’t it? It’s so easy for us to get caught up in what we CAN’T do, or who we AREN’T like that we forget to do what we CAN and be who WE ARE.
Well, I’m here to tell you that enough is enough and it’s time you and I both start walking in the women we were created and born to be.
It is time we discover who we are as a unique person and move forward in our purpose.
Catalyze Your Purpose Series: Part 1 – Discover Who You are As a Unique Purpose
Last week, I introduced this series and shared about what purpose is, the three different stages you can go through in your purpose journey, my purpose journey and then asked three different questions for you to consider in moving forward in your own unique purpose.
One woman shared shared how powerful the following quote was by Dr. Myles Munroe:
“You were created because there was something that demanded your existence on this planet.”
This quote has always resonated with me, and was one of the main motivators for me starting Purpose Coaching and Healthy and Thriving Women because I truly believe each woman and man was created for a great purpose. Each woman and man is a unique PERSON with a unique PURPOSE.
This is why the first part of this series is focused on discovering who you are as a person.
In the blog post below, I go through discovering your unique S.H.A.P.E. as a person and break down each of the five parts of the S.H.A.P.E. assessment.
Now, I must share that this is a spiritual assessment I did awhile back, so the S. does stand for Spiritual Gifts and the assessment does mention God throughout it.
If you don’t feel comfortable venturing into the Spiritual Gifts portion, feel free to just skip that portion and go to through the other four. The Abilities portion does touch on gifting as well, so you can use that section to help with the gifts portion.
Discover Your Unique S.H.A.P.E.
As I shared in the video above, there are five different areas to explore when you are trying to figure out your unique S.H.A.P.E. as a person.
Based on the S.H.A.P.E. assessment (found >>HERE<<), these areas are as follows:
A. SPIRITUAL GIFTS: What has God supernaturally gifted me to do by His Holy Spirit, to serve others and strengthen the church. There are four different ways you can discover your spiritual gifts:
1.Experiment: It’s easier to discover your gift through ministry than to discover your ministry through your gift.
2.Read and study: There are a number of books that talk about spiritual gifts.
3.Take assessments: Like this S.H.A.P.E. assessment.
4.Ask others for input – Others will often see gifts in us that we can’t see ourselves.
Take some time to go through this portion of the assessment, asking God and people for wisdom as you venture to discover your spiritual gifts more.
B. HEART: What are you passionate about and love to do. When it comes to your heart and passion, here are a few general questions to think about:
1. What drives you?
2. Who are the people you most want to help?
3. What are the needs I feel most drawn to?
4. What cause am I passionate about?
C. ABILITIES: Each of us have abilities we have discovered and learned over time. In the assessment, there are many examples that can help you figure out what your abilities may be, but feel free to also write down any that you know you have that many not be on the list.
Here are some five examples of abilities I think I have when going through the assessment:
1.Coaching: The ability to prepare, instruct, train, equip, develop
2.Counseling: The ability to guide, advise, support, listen, care for
3.Analyzing: The ability to examine, investigate, probe, evaluate
4.Persevering: The ability to see things to completion, persisting at something until it is finished.
5.Teaching: The ability to interpret, decode, explain, speak
D. PERSONALITY: Understanding the personality you have been given will help you.
There are two aspects of your personality to consider: how you get energized and how you get organized.Make sure to answer the questions in the S.H.A.P.E. assessment to guide you in figuring out these two aspects.
E. EXPERIENCE:Take a moment to think about these different experiences and how they have impacted your life. There are four main types of experiences you can look at to further discover your purpose and unique shape. These are as follows:
1.Spiritual experiences: meaningful decisions, times with God, times you felt especially close to God
2.Painful experiences: problems, hurts, trials, hardships, etc.
3.Educational experiences: favorite subjects in school, degrees, certifications, special training, etc.
4.Voluntary & ministry experiences: how you’ve served in the past in various charities, organizations, voluntary experiences, etc.
My sister, do you believe you have a unique S.H.A.P.E. that only you have? Do you believe your life is of great worth and value?
Wherever you are at in your life and journey, remember that you have immense worth, value and a beautiful unique S.H.A.P.E.
Please take the time to do this assessment and really start to walk in who you fully are and were always meant to be.
